Representation
At the Sever Storey Law Firm the terms of our representation will be in large part determined by the type of case that you have and its relative merits. The extent of the Sever Storey Law Firm’s legal representation and the fee structure that you are operating under will be clearly articulated in a written contract or a fee agreement letter.
Typical terms of representation include:
- A Fixed Fee: Under this fee arrangement a flat fee will be charged for a clearly defined legal service.
- An Hourly Fee: Under an hourly fee arrangement you will be billed at the attorney’s hourly rate for work done on your case. Typically, clients should expect to pay an hourly rate for family law, real estate and some employment law matters. In addition clients should expect to provide a retainer from which hourly work may be billed against. Your contract will clearly specify the hourly rate and its corresponding charges.
- Contingency Fee: This type of agreement is commonly used in securities malpractice or fraud cases, insurance disputes, sexual harassment cases, employment disputes and eminent domain proceedings. In this type of fee arrangement you will pay a percentage of the proceeds in the event that your case is settled or a verdict is returned in your favor. In the event that you lose the case no attorney fees will be owed. It is important to note, that even if no attorney fees are owed on a particular case you may still be liable for court costs and litigation expenses such as photocopies and postage.
