Working in a Restaurant: Wage Disputes and Minimum Wage

Statistics state that there are roughly around 5 million restaurant workers nationwide in the United States.   The following additional statistics should be considered and observed.
 -          13% of restaurant workers make BELOW the Federal Minimum Wage.
-          Restaurant workers tips are often confiscated.
-          A whopping 59 percent of restaurant workers never receive overtime wages!
The Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York did a study.   They report that the average dishwasher makes roughly $180 to $300 a week for roughly 50 to 80 hours worth of work!
Let's do the math on this one. That’s not even close to the Federal Minimum Wage. That comes out to around $3.60 - $3.75 per hour.   This is a wage dispute just waiting to happen!
Another profession with wage disputes are delivery drivers for instance.   Statistics report they bring home around $120 - $200 per week for the same amount of hours the dishwashers are putting in!
The majority of the people that are taken advantage of have minority backgrounds.   It is a bit hard to afford to go to a lawyer when you are getting robbed, and not even making the Federal Minimum Wage.

If you are a restaurant worker, it’s very important to understand that Federal Minimum Wage and Wage Control laws are in place to protect you from activities such as this.  You need to assert your rights.   You should not let yourself, your friends, family members, or anyone else you know become a victim of wage disputes.  Contact our employment law lawyers today for a consultation about your situation.
